The win I never expected...

Hey there Reader! Holy September, Batman...

How are you doing? Honestly? It doesn't escape me that news headlines from around the world are concerning and many people are hurting. I feel it too. I'm holding space for the difficult things that are going on and hope you are finding comfort and community to lean into.

Before I forget, I wanted to let you know about an amazing free resource to check out:

For those of you with hypermobility (a common finding for many of us with scoliosis and/ or pelvic floor concerns), my colleague Dr. Melissa Koehl is starting her next cohort of Ground Control, which is intended for those of us with extra bendy joints and connective tissue and how to find stability that's tailored to YOU. She's invited me to be a guest speaker in the program to talk in depth about the pelvic floor muscles and go over some info that you may have never heard before on why you may struggle with tightness or other symptoms - and some basic exercises to help. She made a beautiful Posture Guide in conjunction with the program which has some really helpful info to help understand your body better. The Posture Guide is totally free and completely worth the download, trust me. I recommend you go check it out!

Now, back to the subject of the email -

As some of you who follow me on Instagram may know, last weekend I competed in a super sprint triathlon in North Georgia. It's far from my first, I've done triathlons of various distances most years for almost 9 years, though it had been 2 years since I had completed one (the very same race I just did, incidentally...) I competed with a friend and when I was done, I packed up my bike and equipment and we set back off for home. I told myself I'd check my official time and placing on the way home.

To my utter shock and amazement, I won first place in my age group! 😳 Color me surprised...

My first reaction, other than excitement, was my annoyance that I didn't stick around for the 15 minutes until the awards ceremony after I finished. I made an assumption that, based on my past performance, there was no way I would place. I feel a little sad at that realization, nevertheless it's what happened. I suppose the bright side was the same thing I try to impart upon my kids: I went out and did my best with no expectation of the outcome.

I feel like that's an important lesson for all of us, particularly those of us who aren't ever at the top of the competition. It's easy to get discouraged when you're working on something that feels thankless, particularly if there's no extrinsic reward you're chasing.

I don't know what that thing is for you. Maybe it's a physical thing, or a mental thing, or even just the slog of day to day life. So yeah, I don’t know what your thing is, but the advice is the same: go out there, give your best effort without expectation. You never know when you’ll be surprised with the results.

Hey there, Reader... been a while since I've written ya. Not on purpose by any means, believe me. I really do hope you're doing well. To be honest with you, this year has been difficult for me, in many ways. Between full-time patient care out of two locations, trying to be a present parent for two school-aged kids with all their activities, and managing my chronic conditions I've found myself wholly unable to do so many of the things I aspire to do for you and anyone who trusts me to provide...

Hello again, just a last minute reminder to anyone who was wanting to sign up for the free nervous system regulation masterclass tomorrow. Totally free & open to anyone who'd be interested in joining, no strings attached, no sales pitches at the end... just a way to give you some strategies I've learned to regulate and calm myself that have been successful for me and the people I've worked with over the past 14 years. A calmer, more regulated nervous system is more resilient to the stressors...
